Church Leadership
These awards recognize an individual's involvement and leadership in the PHPC Youth Group, as well as in other church activities, and his or her commitment to mission and service through the church and in the community. The amount of each award varies.
General
These one-time awards are based not on financial need or extent of church involvement, but on the church's desire to recognize and support its young people as they embark on their new educational ventures. The amount of these awards varies annually.
Church Leadership Scholarships
Tuesday Morning Men's Breakfast Scholarship
awarded to a member, or child of a member who is enrolled in a full-time degree program at a fully accredited college, university, or other institution of higher learning. Financial need is a primary consideration, and the Abbreviated Statement of Financial Need is required. Renewable if no new eligible freshman.
The Jonathan Roorda Scholarship
awarded to a graduating senior, an undergraduate, or a graduate student who is a top honor student with well-defined goals and who demonstrates the discipline and leadership needed to achieve these goals. In short, the recipient will possess the same hunger and passion for learning and achievement that Jonathan had, the late son of previous PHPC associate pastor Andrea and The Reverend Doctor Erv Roorda. Financial need is not a consideration, but a supplemental essay of 300-400 words is required describing what excites you about learning and what future benefits you see growing from that excitement. Not renewable.
Frances and Luther Ellison Scholarship Fund
multiple awards of at least $1,500/semester to students attending a degree-granting college, who are PHPC members, children of staff, or in specified cases, nonmembers. Trade schools and other specialty courses may qualify in some circumstances. Financial need is a primary consideration, and the Abbreviated Statement of Financial Need is required. Renewals encouraged.
Genesis I Scholarship
awarded to a member, or child of member or staff admitted to a full-time degree program at an accredited four-year college or university. Financial need considered, but not primary. Renewable, but preference given to new freshman.
Genesis II Scholarship
awarded to a member, or child of member or staff admitted to a full-time degree program at an accredited four-year college or university. Financial need considered, but not primary. Renewable, but preference given to new freshman.
Dodds Scholarship
a single award to a freshman member, or child of a member or staff to attend any accredited college or university. Financial need considered but not primary; rather, the emphasis is on grades, service, and leadership. Not renewable.
The Lander Scholarship
awarded to a member, or child of a member or staff who will be a full-time student at TCU. Financial need considered, but not primary. Renewable, but preference given to new freshman.
The Rose Scholarship
awarded to a worthy student attending Yale University, with preference given to member of PHPC or family member of a member of PHPC. Financial need not considered. Renewable, but preference given to new freshman
The Williams Scholarship
awarded to a member, or child of a member or staff to attend, in order of priority: 1) SMU, 2) a private out-of-state college, or 3) a private in-state college. Financial need considered, but not primary. Renewable, if no new freshman.
Global Studies Scholarship
a renewable award to members or children of members or staff to attend UTD or Lehigh, majoring in global studies, or Austin College in any degree program. Financial need considered, but not primary. Renewable, but preference given to new freshman.
The Orr Scholarship
awarded to PHPC members and children of members who are undergraduate or graduate students.
The Royce Scholarship
The General Scholarship Fund
an accumulation of donated funds to be used at the Scholarship Committee's discretion in awarding scholarships to worthy candidates.
